Why we exist

More than a brand.

The problem

A world built on growth, profit and fast fashion. More and more, with little thought for where it comes from or where it ends up. And everything starts to look the same.

Our answer

Products that are unique, authentic and made responsibly. Something you feel good about wearing, that is distinctly you.

The proving ground

A business that brings opportunity to communities that need it, and takes new materials like PHAs to market first. If it works for sunglasses, it can work for much more.

Not just a sunglass company. A proving ground for how things get made.
The sunglasses

Perfectly imperfect, on purpose.

Each pair is made in small batches from recycled plastic blends, so no two are quite alike in color and look. Every pair is custom. Every pair is uniquely yours.

Origin story
AMANŌ — Hecho en USA

Born in Bend, Oregon.

Our first pairs are made here, by hand, from recycled plastics.

Where we're going

The roadmap.

01

Small batch,
Bend, Oregon

Handmade from recycled plastic.

02

Satellite hubs

Communities make the frames and clear their own shores.

03

Collabs
& growth

Celebrity partners with a sustainable vision.

Phase 2, in a story

How a hub is born.

Plastic washed up along a beach A local looking out over the coast with a surfboard Collected plastic being sorted Hands shaping a frame at a workbench A clear river winding through green banks
01 · The beach

A small beach town.

Very little economic opportunity. And beaches increasingly covered in the world's garbage, washing up on their shore.

02 · The partnership

We arrive.

We work with the community to become an AMANŌ hub, with the equipment, the training and the process.

03 · The plastic

Plastic comes off the beach.

Out of the ocean and off the sand, collected and sorted by the people who live there.

04 · The craft

They make the glasses.

Handmade, in small batches, by local hands. We handle the distribution and the sales, and the money goes back to the community.

05 · The result

A cleaner, stronger ecosystem.

The community is fairly compensated for its work, and every batch sold helps clean up the place it came from. Then we do it again, somewhere new.

Materials

Always hunting for more sustainable materials with a story.

We are doing the research and looking ahead to what comes next. Go down the rabbit hole with us and see one example: PHAs, and all the work we are putting into them.

Limited runs

When they're gone, they're gone.

Small batches made from plastic pulled from different places and ecosystems. River cleanups, lake cleanups and beach cleanups each become their own limited run.

Every run comes from a specific place.
Every pair is one of a kind.
Send them back and we recycle them into the next batch.
